Holiday Memories - Secend Day

Our second day started with plan to see wonderful Castle Corvinior. After breakfast we went to the car and let's go. The mountains was covered cloudes . We met how the couple floats over the top of mountains. Beautiful morning view. It was not far to Hunedoara, so we did not hurry. On the way we saw wonderful ruins at the top of the mountain. It was Deva Castle. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to visit this place. Hope to see that in the next time

Deva’s extensive ruined castle perches atop a volcanic hill 370 meters high. You get to the top of the hill using a cable car that has been there since 2003.
The castle dates back to an original construction around 1250, when Transylvania was under the rule of Hungary’s king Bela IV. Various medieval dukes used it over the ensuing centuries, such as Laszlo Kan, who imprisoned prince Otto of Bavaria within its walls.
Transylvanian ruler Janos Hunyadi made Deva castle into one of the finest in Transylvania in 1453, adopting it as a residence – one of several he maintained. Passing years also saw the castle gradually becoming more militarily significant, being mentioned as one of Transylvania’s most impregnable fortified locations in the 1660s.

Time for the beautifully preserved structure features a sumptuous Knights' Hall, an impressive drawbridge, high buttresses, inner courtyards, a chapel and some 50 rooms resplendent with medieval art. We were happy to see this wonderful castle in Romania. Many say that it is even more amazing than the famous Bran Castle. It impressed me. There are not many objects and furniture inside to remind you of the medieval era (the castle “survived” two fires, it was abandoned for a while and then suffered many transformation works) but you will definitely feel the right vibe inside. We enjoyed the time in this castle

Corvin (Corvinesti, Huniazilor) Castle in Hunedoara

There we needed to wait in long line to enter. It was worth.
The most spectacular Gothic-style castle in Romania, Corvin was built by the Anjou family on the site of a former Roman camp. The castle served as a fortress until the mid-14th century when it became the residence of Transylvania's voivode, Iancu de Hunedoara (Ioannes Corvinus in Latin, Hunyadi in Hungarian).
Iancu upgraded the fortress transforming it into a stunning Transylvania castle. This castle was a leading Hungarian military and political figure in Central and Southeastern Europe during the 15th century.

This well is ordinary but it is shrouded in legend. It is said that this well was dug by three Turkish prisoners. Iancu of Hunedoara ordered them to dig in the rock until they found water. And when they would have found it, they would be freed – he promised. After many years of digging they indeed found water but, by then, the voivode had died. His wife, Elisabeta Szilagyi, chose not to keep the promise of her husband to the Turks. So she denied their freedom and beheaded them instead. Down the well, there is an inscription in turkish. The legend says that one of the prisoners wrote: You now have water but you don’t have a heart. Also, on another wall, there are written the names of the three prisoners.

torture chamber.
The Corvin Castle was a host and a subject for many prestigious cinema productions (artistic movies, documentary movies or advertising spots), here being filmed famous moments of the Romanian or Universal History. Some of the movies in which you can see scenes filmed in this castle are: „Lady of the Castle”,  „Ghost Rider 2” (Nicholas Cage),  “What about love” (Sharon Stone) or “Fright Night” (Colin Farrell).

Our next place for night

It was nice walking after long day
