Holiday Memories - Third Day

The third day began with a plan to see the beautiful Peles Palace. Unfortunately it was a Monday and the palace was closed for visitors. And what to do with such a start day. We did not think long time. We have checked the way to reach the campsite and made decision to see the Constance, a beautiful Black Sea town. I have never been there and the plan seemed great. We did not have too much time for a proper city tour, but a nice walk through the streets made us so happy. The  port and old casino was the best for me . There I felt the atmosphere of Constance
Our way was through the Bucegi mountains. Bucegi Mountains area, whereof exist references since the 15th century, has been proposed for protection in 1936, due to peerless landscapes and great diversity of plant and animal species.

Grand Mosque of Constanța originally known as the Carol I Mosque.
The Grand Mosque of Constanța stands on the site of the former Mahmudia Mosque (Geamia Mahmudia), built in 1822 by Hafız Hüsseyin Pașa and named after Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. The Grand Mosque of Constanța was commissioned in 1910 by Romanian King Carol I. Construction began on 24 June 1910 with the first cornerstone laid in the presence of Spiru Haret, contemporary Romanian Minister of Religious Affairs; Sefa Bey, contemporary Ottoman ambassador in Bucharest; and the Ottoman consul in Constanța. The project was funded by the Romanian Government and entrepreneur Ion Neculcea, and finished construction in 1912

Street Food Constanta - Ovidiu Square

Constanta's best known swuare (and meeting place) honors the first Roman major poet, Ovid (Publius Ovidius Naso)
Roman Emperor Augustus exiled Ovid to Tomis in year 8 AD.
Ovid's bronze stature, designed by Italian sculptor Ettore Ferrari in 1887 adorns the square named after him.
An exact replica of the statue can be found in the town of Sulmona (Italy),
the birth pace of the poet.

Constanta Casino

During the 1914 visit to Romania of the Russian Imperial Family, the casino was host to a royal gala.
Despite the intended arrangement, Grand Duchess Olga refused the proposed marriage to Prince Carol II of Romania and the Russians sailed away.
The Grand Duchess was later killed by the Bolsheviks along with the rest of her family.

Completed in 1910, according to the plans of architects, Daniel Renard and Petre Antonescu, Constanta Casino is a stunning art nouveau structure, with Art-Deco accents, perched on a cliffside overlooking the Black Sea.
The pedestrian area around the Casino is the city's most popular promenade.
The casino has been closed since 1990 and needs major restoration works.
Once considered Romania's very own Monte Carlo,
Constanta Casino is today ... one of the most beautiful abbandoned buildings.

Symbol of legendary origins, the power and fame of Rome, Lupa Capitolina statue was made around 1300 AD and not in 500 i.d.hr., as it was thought before. It represents a she-wolf statue that was nursing Remus and his twin brother, Romulus.
After analysis with carbon, the dating results of the statue were made public recently. About the figures of Romulus and Remus it was said that were added to the statue in the fifteenth century.

A plane is not just a big toy but a useful thing. You can use it for travel, research and of course fun, like sightseeing. ~ Charles Curtis
