Holiday Memories - Fourth Day

Something fabulous. East sun with beloved and a cup of coffee on the seafront. Morning coffee on the beach. Dream. Spilled, Every morning we walked on the beach and sat down on the stock drinking coffee and enjoying the music of the waves. There were no people and nobody  disturbed to listen to  the sound of the waves. After  started of the day we went to Varna. Very interesting town with a harbor on the Black Sea. We also went to Roman Thermae.
We did not see them 10 years ago when we were on vacation in Bulgaria. Interesting place, recommendable. Port impressed us the most. Ships moored looked great. We will remember these moments long

the Cathedral is one of the most famous Varna`s attractions

It was very hot day

Roman Thermae

At the end of the 2nd c. A.D. thermal baths were built on a territory of 7.000 sq. m. and are the biggest on the Balkan Peninsula. They became the centre of the public life in the town. Roman Thermal Baths are the largest ancient building discovered in Bulgaria so far. The comparatively  well – preserved walls outline an imposing building. The plan of the building is almost symmetrical. The part uncovered includes all the principal premises of the baths. Visitors entered it through two entrances on the northern fasade. Wide stairs led to the antechamber, the purpose of which was to guard the dressing rooms from cold air. The premises were faced with marble slabs. Multicolored mosaics had been used for the decoration of the marble walls.
The richness of the ornamentation make of these thermae a remarkable monument of ancient architecture in the Bulgarian lands.

Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin
Cathedral facade is made of stones, dragged from the nearby villages. The inner columns are made of a solid stone, get from a region in the northeast from Varna. The stones for the outer columns are supplied from Ruse. The vault archs are made of travertine and the domes are coated in copper tin-plate. The completed cathedral is impressive in size with cross domes. The entire decoration of the temple is started in 1949.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin, built in the 19th century, houses a finely carved iconostasis and bishop’s throne as well as some interesting murals and stained glass.

There are three altars in Cathedral: the Assu of Most Holy Merry is in central position, the southern is dedicated to St. Nikolay Mirikliiski, and the north altar – to Alexander Nevsky. Ferscoes are among the most valuable features of Varna Cathedral. The decoration of patriarchal throne and iconostases is a real masterpiece of wood-carving. In order to see a beautiful panorama of the city from its bell tower, the visitor should ascend the 133 narrow spiral steps.
