St Catherine's Hill

To this place i was inspired by my last time  in Guildford when I saw this place from castle in Guildford. I was so curious what there is. I now what now. I was walking to this place from train station. it isn't so far, about half hour only. The ruins are on the hill where beautiful view is from
St Catherine's Hill is a hill south of Guildford in Surrey, England, with a ruined chapel on its top. The namechapel  is derived from the chantry chapel, a ruined ancient monument on top of the hill. This was probably a chapel of ease associated with St Nicholas Church in Guildford and was built in the early 14th century by the rector of the church, Richard de Wauncey. A five-day fair has been held here historically, licensed by King Edward II in 1308. The hill and chapel were depicted by the artist J. M. W. Turner (1775–1851), with engravings including some in the Tate Gallery. The watercolourist Percy Robertson (1868–1934) painted the view from the hill in 1891

Guildford in autumn

I can say that i love to come back to this town. I'm happy it isn't so far from Chertsey where I work and live at this moment. This day I spent with my friend walking around the town and across the river. We had to visit the castle there too It is so pity it was close but the view was so beautiful in this sunny day. Guildford has Saxon roots  and historians attribute its location to the existence of a gap in the North Downs where the River Wey was forded by the Harrow Way. By AD 978 it was home to an early English Royal Mint. On the building of the Wey Navigation and Basingstoke Canal Guildford was connected to a network of waterways that aided its prosperity. In the 20th century, the University of Surrey and Guildford Cathedral, an Anglican cathedral, were added. It was so beautiful day and I'm sure it isn't the last time I'm in this town.

Guildford Castle was raised shortly after the Norman invasion by William I as one of a chain of fortifications intended to secure control of London. It was rebuilt in stone during the twelfth century including construction of a Great Keep intended to serve as a Royal residence. By the thirteenth century the castle was being used as the county gaol and continued in this role until 1544.

St Catherine's Chapel

I'd like to say in this place that I was so curious what it is. I was looking for some information about this place and I'm happy to get that. I discovered this place few days after visited Gildford with my friend. More about this place in next post.
The Cathedral Church of the Holy Spirit, Guildford, commonly known as Guildford Cathedral, is the Anglican cathedral at Guildford, Surrey, England. The Lord Onslow donated the land on which the cathedral was built with a covenant for this purpose. Designed by Sir Edward Maufe and built between 1936 and 1961, it is the seat of the Bishop of Guildford.

The River Wey in Guildford is canalised into the Wey Navigation

The River Wey is divided into different sections, known as lengths, each with its own lock-keeper, who came to be known as lengthsmen.

We stoped in this place for longer to try to take some photos with moving water. I'm not sure they are good or not but I'm learning. Maybe they not perfect but I'm improve to take them

Guildford High Street
The beautiful cobbled streets, historic buildings and famous Guildhall clock make Guildford one of the most attractive high streets in the country. With a great selection of designer stores, including Jo Malone, LK Bennett and Jaeger, two big name department stores, Debenhams and House of Fraser and a host of well known high street shops such as Monsoon, M&S, and Gap, Guildford can cater for all shopping tastes.

We love to eat in Wetherspoon. Nice break with good meal and beer
It was beautiful day. Thank you Iza
