Blists Hill Victorian Town is one of the ten Ironbridge Gorge Museums.
Blists Hill Victorian Town
It covers 52 acres and is made up of
multiple terrains including shale roadways, block paving, cobbles,
a canal towpath and woodland terrain.
Life is re-enacted by townsfolk who wear the attire of the day and who
go about their daily live's in the shops and workplaces of this
authentic Victorian community. Many have been specially trained with
specific skills and crafts and are ready to demonstrate to visitors,
exactly how certain tasks would have been done in a small industrial
town towards the end of Queen Victoria's reign, in the 19th century.
I has seen the creation of a brand new street of Victorian shops
including a Fried Fish Dealer, Post Office, Milliner and Dress Maker and
Photography Studio along with a state-of-the-art Visitor Centre and
Mine Railway experience. Other popular attractions include
steam-powered machinery, a Victorian chemist (the location for BBC2’s
Victorian Pharmacy series), the squatters cottage, a schoolhouse and a
bank, where you can swap your money for Victorian tokens to spend in the
towns shops and pubs. You'll also join in a variety of special events
including:- weddings, steam days and vintage cycle rallies that take
place throughout the year.
