St. Mary’s Abbey in Howth Ireland

The original Church at Howth was founded by Sitric, the Viking King of Dublin around 1042. It was replaced by an abbey about 1235 before the present church was built in the late 14th century. It was modified in the 15th and 16th centuries. The St. Lawrences of Howth Castle also modified the east end to act as a private chapel with a burial tomb. The church was replaced around 1235 by an abbey and amalgamated with the monastery on Ireland’s Eye, and then rebuilt again late 14th century, the views from this location are spectacular.
