Coventry's Story

Voted by Visit England in the 2013 GB Tourism Survey as the fastest growing large city for short breaks in the West Midlands region, Coventry is also the 13th largest city in the UK and is located 95 miles north west of central London and 19 miles south east of Birmingham in the heart of rural Warwickshire. Coventry was the world’s first twin city, forming a relationship with Russian city Stalingrad (now Volgograd) during the Second World War. The city is now twinned with 22 other cities around the world, including Dresden, Lidice, Kingston and Belgrade.

Coventry is famous for its track record of innovation, enterprise and learning and for welcoming people from across the world to make their home here in the heart of England, where diversity and creativity have always been welcomed. With millions of pounds of city-wide regeneration and development well underway, and vital investment in Coventry city centre’s public realm already paying off through new retail developments planned for the heart of the city over the next few years, Coventry is once more proving that as a city, we are here to stay. And with its fascinating history and heritage, including the magnificence of Coventry Cathedral and the global significance of Coventry’s British motor contribution, its central location and fantastic annual events programme, Coventry continues to go from strength to strength.
